Si totusi au rupt scena la Old Grave in 2022.
(EN) Adorior is the kind of band you listen to once and then you start randomly picking on people: “You don’t know Adorior? What kind of metalhead are you?”. That’s how I found out about them, some time during their hiatus, early 2010s. In pubs or on the internet, I got lines like: “Oooh, Adorior, they were deadly!”. Ado-what??? Let’s see.
Wasn’t too hard. It wasn’t too hard to get your hands on the 2005 album, Author of Incest, and it took you all of two minutes (the first track is Hater of Fucking Humans!) to realize you’ve got something special on your hands. Ask anybody about the platonic ideal of heavy metal, they’d probably envision some muscly guy in fur underwear brandishing a sword, but when it comes to the platonic ideal of EXTREME metal, you get something reaaaally close to this record. How would Slayer sound if they’d grown up on Slayer? Maybe not exactly this but… pretty close.
Like Cutting the Sleeping, the debut LP, is equally excellent and of course it is different, I hear way more black metal. The only reason I don’t start waxing lyrical about me is that nothing could have hit me like Author of Incest had. And here we were, at that time I started telling unexpecting people how deadly Adorior had been, because there was nothing going around about the current goings-on with the band. I put them in my dipslay case, so to speak, next to that fancy bottle of booze you get out for special occasions, and that was that.
Only that was not that, actually. For a few good years now, Adorior is a thing again. At first I saw some social media post, then their name started popping up on flyers, and the the pandemic came. Great timing, but this time Adorior wouldn’t stick to being a thing of the past. Who would have thought we’d see them playing in Romania? They killed at Old Grave in 2002. Who would have thought we’d get a new record? I listened to 2024’s Bleed on my Teeth for dozens of times but I still can’t fathom its impact. It’s everything you would have expected and more, it levels you on the first go but you also keep discovering new things months after.
So yeah, this is the answer to “Ado-what???”. If you can, don’t miss their show in Craiova, so you can pester other people, coming from your own direct and live experience this time, how deadly Adorior IS.
